Early on August Bank
Holiday Monday the redoubtable Kenny and team started a day-long washing
marathon and the cars of Hambleden now gleam more brightly than any in
neighbouring villages.

There were stalls of
produce, local Pheasants Ridge wine, and Charles Gray was selling his
book 'On Chiltern Slopes' about the village as he remembered it.
Then, in the afternoon,
tea and cakes were served (all made by men (honestly)),

while the local
population of teddy bears were taken up in a basket and thrown from the
church tower,
with only a parachute to save them, despite the wind and the danger of
nearby trees.
The winner was the one which
landed nearest the black cross and duly received a prize.

This day was organised
by verger, Alan, to raise
funds for the repair of St Mary's Church.
