When visiting...
Be sure, when you next visit the Hambleden Valley, that
you spend some time in Fawley. The village, once an ancient settlement
Calles Falle, is situated on a chalky ridge on the Chilterns to the west of
the Valley. Today there is much to see and enjoy here including excellent
walks such as those down to Hambleden or to Stonor Park. Fawley Court, home
of the Marian Fathers, is two miles to the south of the village beside the
Thames.
Both Stonor Park and Fawley Court are open to the
public, the former throughout the summer months and the latter on special
open days.
The parish church of St Mary's lies at the centre of
the village. It has stood on its present site for over eight hundred years.
The parish of
Fawley was amalgamated with that of Hambleden in 1968 and now forms part of
the Hambleden Group of Churches. Today the church is at the heart of village
life. There are services every Sunday morning. Come and join us and, with a
bit of luck, enjoy a cup of coffee afterwards. All are most welcome.
